The Basics: Essential Running Gears Needed When Joining A Marathon

You don’t really need many gears when running a marathon. Running shoes and comfortable running clothes are good enough to keep you going. However, for a safer, more comfortable and enjoyable marathon experience, you can add a few more gears to your list.

Here are things you might want to consider bringing with you:

Essential Running Gears

Polyester Clothing

A polyester-made clothing is usually the most comfortable running clothing. Polyester absorbs moisture or sweat from your skin, and it also prevents rashes. Polyester is a thermo-regulating material. Thus, it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Running Shoes

You’ll never go wrong when you invest in a sturdy and comfortable running shoes. Make sure that it fits you perfectly as loose or tight shoes will greatly affect your performance.

Compression Socks

Professionals and even amateurs wear compression socks. They minimize muscle fatigue and prevent cramps.

Compression Short

Compression shorts running have anti-chafing property and supportive fit, so they’re very comfortable to wear. Not only can these improve your performance by allowing you to move freely, but they also help speed up your post-run recovery.

Running Watch

A running watch is important if you want to set a record for yourself. Also, being able to keep track of your running intervals will help you improve your skills.

For safety and faster recovery, these are recommended:

Hydration Pack

It’s very important that you keep yourself hydrated to maintain the balance of fluids in your body while running a marathon. A hydration pack with a water bottle on just one side could be distracting and will impair your balance. Choose a hydration pack with a water bottle and side strap belt.

Running a marathon means spending a lot of time in the sun, so it is important to protect your skin from the sun. Make sure to use a waterproof sunscreen with at least 15 SPF. Choose the type that protects you from UVA and UVB rays. Stick formulations are also good for your face because they keep the sunscreen from running into your eyes.

Running Visors or Sunglasses

You can wear a visor or hat that will give your face that extra protection. A good pair of UV-blocking sunglasses will also protect your eyes from the damaging rays of the sun.

Sports Bra

Wearing a good sports bra can make a huge difference. It will add more comfort and help avoid breast pain.

Body Glide

A body glide will protect your underarms, nipples, thighs, and basically any part of your body that gets rubbed when running. Thus, it helps you avoid chafing and blisters caused by movement and friction.

Tennis Balls

Tennis balls are cheap but highly effective foot massage tools. While you’re seated, gently roll the balls underneath your feet for a few minutes to relax your muscles.

Whatever running gears you have, make sure that you make the most of them. Consider them as your investments in improving yourself or in winning a marathon.
